Susan Dentzer, a leading national expert in health care and health policy, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation. In her role as President and CEO, Dentzer drives the organization’s strategic agenda and priorities, works closely with its members to identify key issues, promotes NEHI’s research and policy recommendations, and serves as the organization’s spokesperson, providing insightful analyses of the U.S. health care system.
Since 2013, Dentzer has been Senior Policy Adviser to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation’s largest philanthropy focused on U.S. health and health care. She previously served as editor-in-chief of Health Affairs, a leading journal of health policy, and as on-air health correspondent on the PBS NewsHour. Dentzer is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and serves on its Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice. She is also an elected member of the Council on Foreign Relations; a fellow of the National Academy of Social Insurance; and a fellow of the Hastings Center, a nonpartisan bioethics research institute. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Rescue Committee, and also serves on the Board of Directors of Research!America; is a public member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Medical Specialties; and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Health Institute. She is also a member of the RAND Health Board of Advisors and the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured. Dentzer is a graduate and trustee emerita of Dartmouth and formerly chaired the Dartmouth Board of Trustees. She also serves on the Board of Overseers of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, earned the institution’s Alumni Award, and holds an honorary Dartmouth master’s degree. She was also a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 1986-87.
