I'm a Man, and I'm Sorry!

Havens advocates a world in which there would be no need for a "Women's Liberation Movement," that is, if he can accomplish his goal of launching a nationwide "Male Surrender Movement!" Forget the "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People;" Havens believes no man is ever going to be highly effective until he realizes and accepts his true place in the universe. After all, what good is business success anyway, if you're still fighting a futile and unwinnable war at home? Havens' call to action is for the men of America to learn the dignity that comes with knowing when you're beat, which he teaches through such lessons as "Seven Things Men Should Say to Keep Women Happy," "Fourteen Lies Essential to the Perfect Relationship," and "The Wedding! - Sorry, But It's Not Your Day, Fella."

Everything I Needed To Know I Learned From My Wife!

In 1949, in response to a statement that women would rule the world in the year 2000, Sir Winston Churchill replied, "Still?" Theories on "The Battle of the Sexes" are myriad and date back to the origins of the human species. Genetics, environment, reinforcement, folklore, even extraterrestrial influence have been proposed. But all exalt the glory of the conflict, and none advocate the laying down of arms and a possible concession of defeat. Until now. In his hilarious one-man show, Rex Havens creates a magical and continuous flow of laughter to bridge the often-hostile gap between the warring male and female camps...all built around a simple message: "Sorry, fellas, it's over, we lost!" "Everything I Needed to Know..." is a 90-minutes-plus one-act play with more insight and laughs-per-minute than any other work of its kind. Women and men alike come away with the sense that, while the battle may never yield a clear winner, the gap between us may be less than we imagined, and the subject is fertile ground for those who enjoy smiling at our own foibles, inconsistencies, insecurities, and general silliness.

Speaker Information

Rex Havens has a simple message for the men of America: "Sorry, fellas, it's over, we lost!" Taking the very heart of the world around each of us, he applies his own unique combination of logic and insanity, and offers it back to his audience in a way that is engaging, thoughtful, and hilarious.

Havens has been delighting comedy audiences for 20 years, in world-famous comedy clubs like The Improv, Catch-A-Rising Star, Funny Bones, and Zanies; on television for Showtime, Comedy Central, and Comic Relief; cruise ships worldwide; and corporate clients including GM, American Express, Texaco, 3M, Coca-Cola, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, and the IRS ("working for the IRS is the only sure way to get money from them!"). He has also performed for numerous healthcare organizations, including the Illinois Health Care Association, St. Luke's Health System, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Illinois Youth Counselors, United Hospital Center, Siouxland Ophthalmic Labs, and McKenzie Memorial Hospital.

A former college professor (his overjoyed mother cheerfully proclaimed, "There go two graduate degrees down the drain!") who made the unusual transition to the stand-up comedy stage in the '80s, Havens has always believed laughter is the best defense against a confusing and challenging world. His take on "The Battle of the Sexes" has propelled him to performances around the world, including London, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Honolulu, Bermuda, Montreal, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Juneau, and Aruba.

Creating a magical and continuous flow of laughter, Havens lively, animated performance bridges the often-hostile gap between the warring male and female camps. Women and men alike come away with the sense that, while the battle may never yield a clear winner, the gap between us may be less than we imagined, and the subject is fertile ground for those who enjoy smiling at our own foibles, inconsistencies, insecurities, and general silliness. Those who have seen Rex Havens perform have said that his vision and examples are still part of their family conversations many years later.
