Do Disabilities Disable You?

Removing Roadblocks from Your Path to Success

In this presentation, Aronin enlightens audiences by revealing the secrets to letting go of personal fears. Using his own experiences with cerebral palsy as an example, he teaches audiences how to recognize their own shortcomings, which are not always as visible. Combining inspiration with a twist of humor, Aronin helps his audience recognize personal potential while they rid themselves of the myths of their own inabilities.

Laughing It Off

Give your associates and colleagues a refreshing and entertaining evening of comedy after a long day of meetings. Using your company and its key players as the "best material," Aronin will give you a performance that your associates will be talking about for years to come.

Speaker Information

Michael Aronin knows two things: he has a killer sense of humour, and he has cerebral palsy.

But Aronin has never let his disability get him down; in fact, it has hardly even phased him. While an undergraduate at Towson State University, he was elected President of the Student Government Association, going on to become one of the hardest working comics in the country. His outstanding efforts have been recognized by such prominent media sources as ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, The Baltimore Sun, and The Baltimore Business Journal. Most recently, Aronin won the 2004 Norman G. Brooks Stand-Up Comedy Scholarship Competition at The Improv in Los Angeles, California. The competition is sponsored by the California Governor's Committee on Employment of People With Disabilities and The Media Access Office.

Today Aronin spends much of his time lending his considerable wit, and a surprising dose of wisdom, to professional speaking that benefits those who are disabled, as well as those who are not.

Aronin shares what it was like growing up disabled in an able bodied world, and how he discovered firsthand the importance of believing in yourself, of building and maintaining a support system, and of the crucial role humor and attitude can play in our lives. And as he will tell you himself, his only disability is losing his hair at an early age.

Offering humor as a way to break down barriers, Aronin proves that someone who is disabled can have the same outlook on life as someone who is not. Because disabled or not, you can be your own best friend or your own worst enemy. Believing that we all face challenges in one way or another, his program demonstrates that it is not our disabilities that keep us from achieving, but our attitude towards our own situations.

With a genuine understanding of people, Aronin's presentations use a rare combination of leadership skills and gentle nudging to help audiences discover the best in themselves. He spends every day in mirthful battle with everything from modem "conveniences" to other people's prejudices, and through it all he helps us to see the humor and the potential in our own frustrations.

Aronin is also passionate about educating students and teachers about mastering the art of rising above to achieve dreams in life. Having been mainstreamed from kindergarten on, he shares his valuable insights to help students as they strive to understand the day-to-day challenges one with an obvious disability faces. During his own high school years, Aronin was involved in Student Government, Big Brothers, drama, and the football team (waterboy!). By teaching students and faculty how to control their own destinies, Aronin inspires them to discover and embrace their talents while working to overcome challenging circumstances.
