He earned a masters degree in communication from San Diego State University and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of San Diego. He is an active supporter of Monarch High School, a first-of-its-kind high school for homeless children, where the Freiberg family has been involved for many years. Freiberg and his wife, Jackie, are working to help make this prototype school a model for other cities across the United States.
