Programs
More Than Meets the EyeThis program is a surefire attention grabber as Brock draws parallels between her own story and the challenges that face organizations. The very nature of today's business environment means the possibilities of merger, reorganization, or economic turndown are constantly on the horizon, and organizations must absorb such events with a minimum of disruption. As she puts it, "Life is full of irreversible opportunities, and you have a choice to see them as assets or obstacles." Urging audiences to "play the hand you're dealt," Brock helps organizations see corporate challenges from a new perspective.
White Coats(Intended for Medical Professionals & Caregivers)
This program touches the heart and soul of every attendee as Brock recounts her numerous medical experiences and the impact of those caregivers in her life. “White Coats” is based on a chapter from her book More Than Meets The Eye, which was also a featured television movie. Whether she was the patient, or the spouse of a patient, the true-life stories she shares are personal and profound. "There have been so many moments when either a doctor, technician, therapist or nurse... walked out of the room hurrying to their next patient, never to be seen again. I realized I had not had the opportunity to thank them for their help. This is my opportunity to thank them for myself, as well as for millions of others who feel the same way." In a medical world, filled with many complications, this thought provoking presentation inspires, uplifts and encourages the audience, providing that “pat on the back” they so richly deserve.
Come To Your SensesIn this lively, interactive session Brock introduces groups to the world of heightened perception; a world where all the senses come into play. Audience members are invited to take a step beyond their normal frame of reference and experience, for just a few moments, a new level of communication, teamwork and observation. This fun, thought-provoking and insightful exercise provides participants with a new set of skills they can immediately put to work in both their business and personal lives.
Speaker Information
Joan Brock was forced to re-evaluate and transform her life when she lost her sight in a mere three-week period of time. At the time, Brock ironically worked as a teacher of the blind at The Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, where she frequently addressed groups on the school's behalf. Through this difficult transition, Brock applied the skills she had been teaching to her own circumstances, and from there, discovered a natural transition to a professional speaking career.
Five years later she tragically lost her husband to cancer and was left to raise her young daughter as a blind, single parent. Drawing on her innermost strength and the support of family, friends, and co-workers, Brock transformed adversity into personal triumph.
Brock authored More Than Meets The Eye, her motivational story which has been translated into several languages and is also a Reader's Digest Condensed Book. In 2003, Joan’s amazing life story was portrayed in a Lifetime Television Net work movie, titled More Than Meets the Eye: The Joan Brock Story.
Brock is one of the celebrated women in Believing In Ourselves, a book of beautiful photographs and compelling essays profiling 35 women who have succeeded in achieving extraordinary personal goals or overcoming significant hardships in their lives. After winning the hearts of the insurance industry's "Million Dollar Round Table" and NBC's "Today" show with her story of courage, perseverance and acceptance, Brock was named the national spokesperson for Prevent Blindness America, a non-profit organization dedicated to eye health safety training and research.
