Taking Heart Disease Personally

When TV news anchor Gail Hogan collapsed at work in 1988 and her heart stopped beating, her co-workers kept her alive by administering CPR. At age 32, she was a wife and mother, the picture of health, and an unlikely candidate for heart failure. Since that life changing event, Gail Hogan has been an advocate for women's heart health. It hasn't been an easy journey. For 20 years, Gail has faced doctors and health experts who dismissed women's heart issues as simply stress or anxiety. She became one of the founding members of the American Heart Association's Women's Heart Health Initiative in Columbus, to raise awareness and dollars specifically for women's heart issues. This was the forerunner of the national AHA Go Red Campaign, targeting women and heart disease. For Gail, it's exciting to finally see the medical community realizing women's heart issues are real and different than men's. Most recently, Gail had open heart surgery to repair a heart valve, and has a pacemaker and defibrillator to correct her arrhythmia. She continues educating women on their health and shares her personal story, along with practical advice, for women of all ages.

Gail is married and has three children, ages 20, 18 and 15. She now owns and hosts her own TV show where she lives, in Columbus, Ohio.

Gail Hogan is an Emmy award winning journalist and has worked in TV and radio news for over 25 years. Gail has been a radio morning show host, host of the nationally syndicated TV show PM Magazine, a TV news reporter and most recently, the evening news anchor at the NBC affiliate WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio. Gail now is the owner, producer and host her own TV talk show, Daily Columbus. Besides working on her own show, Gail is a sought after talent for on camera and voice over projects. Clients include HGTV-Home and Garden TV Network, Nationwide, Proctor and Gamble, Huntington Banks, Ross Labs, The Scotts-Miracle Gro Company, Wendy's International, and Glimcher Properties to name a few.

She is a native of Toledo and a graduate of the University of Toledo. Gail is married to Ohio Common Pleas Court Judge Dan Hogan and is the mother of three.
