Speaker Information

In 1989 Elaine Pasqua's mother and stepfather were diagnosed with the AIDS virus. Because of the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS, she honored her parents' wishes and kept their HIV status a secret. Witnessing the ravages of this disease as she cared for them, Pasqua vowed to speak out so others would not have to experience the pain and loss that twice touched her family. She wanted to spread the message that AIDS is everyone's disease.

Since 1995, Pasqua has addressed thousands about prevention and the psychosocial dynamics of HIV/AIDS, and more recently about high-risk behaviors and their affects on our goals. Her degree in dental hygiene, along with her work in dentistry for 16 years, have provided Pasqua with an extensive medical background and a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of HIV/AIDS, as well as health and well being. She is a past faculty member of the New Jersey AIDS Education and Training Center, and serves as a member of the Pennsylvania HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee.

Pasqua has presented her programs to thousands of college students at over 200 colleges and universities across the country. Her topics not only include AIDS education, but also the timely issues of alcohol abuse, date rape prevention, and sexual responsibility. She provides educational programming as president of Project Prevent, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide AIDS education to elementary and secondary students. In addition, programs for health, teaching and social professionals are available. She also presents programs to parents about the high risks that our teens are facing today. Pasqua has been featured in USA Today, Time Warner Cable TV, and Knight Ridder News Service. She has also showcased as the NACA National Conference, the NCAA National Champs Life Skills Conference, and was a featured speker at the BACCHUS and GAMMA National Assembly.

Testimonials

"Feedback from audiences has been entirely positive - many young adults saying that what she has to say...serves as a wake up call to take precautions and assume responsibility for one's behavior choices."
