Half the Man, Twice the Man

Bill Germanakos is the 4th season winner in the first reality series where everybody loses. "The Biggest Loser" offers severely overweight participants the opportunity to undergo a radical physical makeover without any kind of surgery and Bill is proud to stand before you as the "biggest loser."

His presentation inspires and motivates others as he delivers his message of how an intense regimen of diet and exercise helped him vastly improve his overall health, extend his life expectancy and ultimately reward him with a second chance at living an active lifestyle. He touches upon such factors as motivation, inspiration, dedication, education and perspiration as those which are pertinent in the battle against obesity. Goal-setting, planning and perseverance were all paramount in his endeavor for which he was awarded the first prize and the title "The Biggest Loser."

While the money and title are impressive, the true prize is the compelling and dramatic improvement in his medical results including: overcoming serious cardiac risk; severe hypertension; high cholesterol; and metabolic syndrome.

The Story Behind the Biggest Loser

Bill Germanakos was one of 18 contestants on the fourth season of the NBC hit reality show "The Biggest Loser". Bill, along with his twin brother Jim, competed and won, not only the prize of $250,000, but also a new insight into better health. He takes his audiences behind the scenes of the reality show with stories about the competition between the contestants and the inside story of how a reality show works. Probably the most important story is how he lost half his weight to regain his health and his life.

Speaker Information

Bill Germanakos was one of 18 contestants on the fourth season of the NBC hit reality show "The Biggest Loser". The twin brother of Jim, who was also cast on the show, Bill is 41years old, from Lynbrook, New York. Bill and Jim have been described as being extremely close, yet extremely competitive, since the day they came into the world together. At the age of 40 during a consultation with his physician, Bill was informed that he was not only classified as obese, but had seriously high blood pressure and several health factors, including high cholesterol, which put him at risk for heart disease. These diagnoses, along with several other compelling factors, such as the recent death of a close family friend and the fact that his father had died young, was motivation enough for Bill to decide to make important and necessary changes in his life, as it pertained to his diet and exercise habits.

He's been married to wife Stephanie for more than 15 years, and the two have three beautiful children, ages 14,11 and 8. The thought of not being there to walk his two daughters down the aisle was a major contributing factor for him as well.

Bill's mantra on "The biggest Loser" was: "To become half the man, so that he could be twice the man", and standing a 5'8", Bill went from weighing in at 334 lbs. to 170 lbs. losing a total of 164 lbs, or 49.1% of his starting body weight.

At the live finale of this show this past December, Bill was declared the winner of the fourth season of The Biggest Loser, and was awarded the first prize of $250,000. His brother Jim, who had been eliminated early in the competition, ended up competing as an "at-home" or "eliminated" contestant, and after losing 186 lbs, won first prize for the eliminated contestants, for which he was awarded $100,000. Now that Bill has become "Half the Man", he strives every day to be "Twice the Man", for himself, and in his career and especially for his family. After having been reeducated about diet and exercise, his goal is to "pay it forward" by helping to educate those who also struggle with obesity.
